Description
Jackie "Moms" Mabley, an African-American comedian born in 1894, had a difficult childhood and ran away to Cleveland at 14. In the 1920s, she started performing at the Cotton Club. Later on, she became the first female comedian to be showcased at the Apollo Theater. She earned $85 per week. Known as the "Funniest Woman in the World," she appeared in films, TV shows, and released albums. Jackie died on May 23, 1975, in White Plains, New York, after suffering from heart failure.
